Even Fat People Can Find Solace in the Outdoors

Written by The_Obese_Hiker

Let’s cut through the BS: the outdoors isn’t just for the lean, Lycra-clad Instagram warriors.

It’s for everyone - yes, even those of us who’ve never seen the inside of a gym and consider a pint glass an essential piece of hiking kit. Here’s why getting outside - no matter your size - can be the ultimate act of self-care (with a pint or a trig selfie for good measure).

1️⃣ The Outdoors Doesn’t Judge

The hills don’t care if you’re carrying a few extra stone. There’s no scale at the summit, no “fit check” at the gate - just a path, some fresh air, and a view that’ll always beat your living room.

2️⃣ Go at Your Own Pace (Literally)

No one’s timing you - unless it’s you, trying to work out if you’ll reach the pub before last orders. Whether it’s a mile or ten, what matters is that you’re moving.

3️⃣ The Pub is Still the Reward

Forget “no pain, no gain” - for us, it’s “no pub, no point.” The best hikes end with a pint (or a cuppa in your favourite sarcastic mug). The sweat is optional; the socialising is essential. And if you’re skipping the pub for a backyard chill, our magnetic bottle openers are always game.

🛒 Gear Up Without the Hassle

You don’t need to spend a fortune to get outside. Amazon’s got everything - from boots that fit real feet to backpacks that don’t break the bank. (Not a personal recommendation, just saying - it’s all there if you fancy a browse.) Check out my no-BS gear page.

4️⃣ Your Body, Your Rules

The outdoors doesn’t care about calories, steps, or how many push-ups you can do. It’s about feeling alive - even if that means taking more snack breaks than summit selfies. Bring a funny enamel mug and let your brew be your reward.

5️⃣ Small Wins are Still Wins

Whether it’s making it to the next gate, reaching that trig point, or just stepping outside when you’d rather stay in - it all counts. It’s proof you showed up, and that’s enough.

🍺 Giveaway Alert - £25 Store Credit

I’m running a giveaway to win £25 store credit to spend on anything in The Obese Hiker shop. It’s open to UK residents only and ends on Sunday 16th June 2025.

Just sign up via the email pop-up on the site to enter. You’ll also get a cheeky 10% discount code straight away. Job done.

🚶♂️ Conclusion

So if you’re feeling too big, too slow, or too out-of-place to hit the trail - don’t. The outdoors is for everyone, including you. Find your path, find your pace, and most importantly, find your pint at the end.

Got your own tales of outdoor glory? Tag me on Instagram or share them in the comments - let’s celebrate every single one of us who’s found solace in the fresh air.
